Health and Safety
The RSMA strive to bring Health and Safety in the 21st Century to its members.
It is a subject that is consistently under the spot light but in the 21st Century we must recognise that public and societal values have changed. There is now a much stronger tendency for people to look to others to blame and to call for “something to be done” whenever there is an accident or an incident. There is a greater concern about the possibility of civil litigation and claims for damages; this is the reality in the road marking and other sectors.
The RSMA do not seek to revolutionise the subject but set out to optimise its resources in protecting its membership from the potential consequences of poor health and safety policy and practises. It is interesting to note that 4 sectors account for 50% of all work related deaths; construction is one of those sectors.
RSMA membership amongst other things is subject to a satisfactory health and safety policy and the submission of accident statistics; it is an essential part of membership criteria. The rewards for doing health and safety properly will come from your own organisation – less accidents, greater staff motivation and better business performance and not from any regulator.
The RSMA engage the membership and have the resources available to support a comprehensive health and safety policy now and in the future. The association work to build and maintain relationships with relevant external bodies ensuring that the association and its membership are best placed to respond to changing circumstances.
