Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007

The Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2007 (CDM 2007) came into force on 6 April 2007.

Everyone in construction needs to know about the new construction health and safety regulations.

CDM 2007 will help you to:

  • Improve health and safety in your industry
  • Have the right people for the right job at the right time to manage the risks on site
  • Focus on effective planning and managing risk - manage the risk not the paperwork

The Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW)

The Design Manual for Roads & Bridges (DMRB)

The DMRB was introduced in 1992 in England and Wales, and subsequently in Scotland and Northern Ireland. It provides a comprehensive manual system which accommodates all current standards, advice notes and other published documents relating to the design, assessment and operation of trunk roads (including motorways).

It has been developed from a number of separate series of documents previously published by the Overseeing Organisations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. These documents, together with later additions, have been gathered together in a consistent series of volumes within the manual to help in meeting the requirements of quality assurance procedures.

STANSPEC - Standard Specification Document For Road Markings & Road Studs

This is a standard specification document produced by the RSMA in consultation with client side organisations. It is in its fifth edition nad has been in place since the withdrawal of BS3262 and the introduction of European Standards for Road Markings.

The European Standards requires clients to use performance driven specifications for road markings and this document is designed to both aid transition to a markedly different type of specification for many authorities and to assist in the ongoing development of such specifications for those that have already introduced STANSPEC as the basis for their specifications.

Update Your Road Markings

The RSMA have produced this CD-Rom to set out the specific requirements for road markings contained in Statutory Instrument 2002 No. 3113, The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 and includes the relevant road marking aspects of the regulations covering Zebra, Pelican and Puffin Crossings (1997 No. 2400, The Zebra, Pelican and Puffin Crossing Regulations 7 General Directions 1997), plus information concerning road studs, contract documents and other aspects of road marking practice.

The publication is intended as a simplified but nonetheless comprehensive source for on-site and office use by all those concerned with the design or application of road markings.

White Lines Saves LivesWhite Lines Saves Lives

White Lines Saves Lives is a report which has been produced to highlight the clear road safety and economic benefits that would be achieved through enhanced budgets to national and local road authorities for investment in road marking based safety schemes.

At a time when urban design considerations are being given a priority by some highway authorities this paper suggests that such considerations should not be the ‘default’ position and that they should only be implemented when road safety will not be compromised. Furthermore, any savings achieved from the removal of markings for aesthetic reasons should be reinvested in additional road safety schemes by specifying authorities.

The RSMA firmly believes that ‘White Lines Save Lives’ and that they also have a crucial role to play in reducing congestion and the associated environmental difficulties from congestion. Consequently investment in an effective road-marking infrastructure should be a priority for all public policy makers.
