Welcome to the Road Safety Markings Association

The RSMA is the largest specialist trade association in the highways sector, and aims to driveforward standards of Quality, Health & Safety and Training in support of its members along with  £150,000 of investment in sector promotion and client education. This investment, which we believe is unprecedented by a highways sector trade association, is being designed to try and address what we see as Add an image descriptionthe main challenges.

As the largest of all the specialist trade associations within the highways sector the RSMA has seen spectacular growth over the last 10 years or so, membership has doubled to 90 member companies, whilst the number of professional staff available to support member companies has grown from one to ten.

This growth has been as a direct result of the Association focusing on developing a commercial base that both leads and responds to changes faced by member companies, adding value to the membership proposition. The Association has developed a large NVQ Assessment Centre, qualifying in excess of 500 road marking operatives. The centre delivers or facilitates delivery of a wide range of NVQ and training solutions for Roadmarking companies.

The Association, working in close partnership with CSkills has also been at the forefront of the development of Specialist Apprenticeships, introducing the first of its kind within the Highways sector, which now form the only externally recognised route for road marking operative training.

Pram workAll of these activities are already having a direct impact on the quality and consistency of outputs from the sector and it is anticipated that within 18 months, the road marking sector or RSMA members at any rate, will have a fully qualified workforce complemented with a mature training structure providing trainees that are undertaking the most comprehensive and wide ranging training available in the entire highways sector.

The level of investment available to RSMA to promote the sector is as a direct result of us having built a strong service base to add value to the membership proposition for member companies; and the commitment that those members have shown to wanting to drive up standards in the areas outlined, namely Quality, Health & Safety and Training. This is creating a virtuous circle enabling the Association to drive forward member interests by building networks with clients and professional bodies.

In the long term it is clear that the winners from all of this will be clients and RSMA members as standards and knowledge rise, equally it will become harder for those outside of Association to establish and maintain a foothold in the sector unless they can evidence standards and performance at the level required of Association members.
